It happens all too often. A file gets corrupted or deleted. You go to restore it from your backup and find
out that for some reason or another, the file is not available to be restored. The reasons can vary, but the
end result is the same… your data is gone and your business is crippled.
There could be many reasons for this:
- New files and folders may not be automatically added to your backup selection list.
- The file may be in use during the backup, forcing the backup to skip that file
- The backup media could be faulty
- The tape drive could be failing
- The backup job could be disabled
- Business conditions could have changed. What was once not worth backing up, might now be mission
critical.
- The tape drivers could be corrupted.
- The backup software could be malfunctioning.
- You may not be performing backups because you think it is too expensive.
- You may not be performing backups because you think the data is easy to recreate.
- There could be other reasons that are not mentioned here.
The solution is to verify that you are backing up everything you need, and also verify that you can restore
it when needed. Sounds simple, right? It is not always as simple as it seems.
Some of the barriers include:
- Finding the time to evaluate your backup system.
- Not knowing what is important and what is not
- Not knowing how to evaluate your backup system
- Not having the right resources to backup your system
Unified System, Inc. can be a valuable asset when evaluating your backups. From just providing the
tools to backup your system correctly, to a full system maintenance contract which includes regular checks
of your backup system, so that you can sleep at night knowing your data is protected.
